Author: Henry Charles Linstead (1840–1884)

Biography: Henry Charles Linstead was born in 1840 in Garboldisham, Norfolk, the son of gardener Nathan Linstead and his wife Lucy (née Fulcher). His early life cannot be traced, but by the early 1860s, he worked as a schoolmaster at St. Giles school in Headington. In 1866, he married Charlotte Beesley and the couple had several daughters. Linstead wrote only a single work of fiction. His end was remarkably sad. In November 1884, he was accused of stealing items from his students' rooms. The court who heard his case found him mentally unstable and committed him to an asylum. A few weeks later, Linstead was found dead in his room. Though the coroner ruled the death accidental, it appears to have been a suicide.
