Author: Richard Davis Perry (1849–1892)

Biography: Richard Davis Perry was born in 1849 in London, the son of surgeon Richard Rogers Perry and Marianne Phillips. He studied medicine but never practiced. Instead, he turned to literature writing several plays and one novel but never achieved much success. Perry became an alcoholic and ran through his means. Eventually, his family paid him a small stipend. He never married. On 13 January 1892, Perry visited his solicitor, retired to a coffee house, and shot himself a few hours later. His death was attributed to temporary insanity.
