Author: John Percy Groves (1850–1916)
Biography: John Percy Groves was born on 27 October 1850 in Bath, the son of army officer and equerry John Richard Groves and his wife Elizabeth Louisa Priaulx. He entered the army in 1869 and served with the 67th regiment, 27th regiment, and the Royal Guernsey Artillery as an officer. In 1873 he married Harriet Augusta Raines, the sister of General Sir Julius Augustus Raines (d. 1909). The couple had six sons and one daughter including the author George Percy Raines. In addition to his military service, Groves wrote histories of the Royal Scots Greys, the Black Watch, and other Scottish regiments as well as several military-themed novels. He died on 13 February 1913 in Southend.
