Biography: Mary Josephine Martin was born around 1843 in Dublin, the daughter of James Henry Monahan (1803–1878), the Lord Chief Justice of Ireland. She grew up among the highest society of Dublin. In middle age, she turned to fiction and turned out a handful of titles in the Victorian period and another novel in 1912. In addition, she wrote a few nonfiction religious works and contributed articles to magazines. In 1872, she married the wealthy timber mercant and banker Charles Edward Martin (1839–1907). Together, the couple were great philanthropists. She died on 25 October 1921 in Dublin.
