Biography: James Harris was born about 1849 in Merthyr Tydvil. After clerking for the local courts he began contributing to the local newspaper, inlcuding a serial novel which was published as Lawrence Loftewalde (1878) under the pseudonym "Arthur Hamilton." He moved from the Merthyr Express to the Western Mail then to editing The Red Dragon. After a brief stint with the Yorkshire Post he returned to Cardiff to run the Duke of York Inn. He died after a short illness in December 1892. He left a widow and seven children.
