Biography: Annabella Carlisle was born in 1826 in Clifton, the daughter of Thomas Carlisle and his wife Sarah. In her early twenties, she wrote three novels under the pseudonym "Anna Lisle," a truncated version of her legal name. In 1867, she married William N. Crawford and the couple do not appear to have had any children. As a wife, Carlisle wrote one further novel under her own name. She died on 28 May 1895 in Stockbridge where she resided as a widow.
