Biography: Ellen Mary Robin was born in January 1861 on Guernsey, the daughter of grocer Nicolas Robin and his wife Rachel Elizabeth (née Gallienne). In her twenties, she worked as a governess on the island and later moved to England where she worked as a teacher at schools in Norwich, Torquay, Dorking, and Kent. She also wrote several well-recieved novels under the pen name "E. Gallienne Robin" which added her mother's maiden name to her own. She never married and died on 21 September 1938 in Lynn.
