Author: Dempster Heming (1843–1934)

Biography: Dempster Heming was born on 2 December 1843 in London, the son of magistrate and landowner Dempster Heming and his wife Rhoda Mary. He spent his early life at Lindley Hall, Nuneaton enjoying a life of privilege. He attended Winchester and Marlborough before joining the Madras Infantry in 1862. He served in India and Burma. After retirement at the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1890, he turned his hand to fiction. He married and had one daughter. He died on 17 March 1934 in Atherstone. Interestingly, his father stood for parliament in 1832 in Warwickshire. During his campaign there was a riot at Nuneaton later described by George Eliot in Felix Holt.
