Biography: Selina Gaye was born on 22 March 1840 in London, the daughter of clergyman Charles Hicks Gaye and his wife Jane Trimmer (née Howard). Her father was the rector of St. Matthews, Ipswich and that is were she spent her childhood. Thereafter, she lived with various family members in London. At a young age, she turned to literature writing the novel Aunt Agnes (1861) under the pseudonym "A Clergyman's Daughter." She also contributed to periodicals and worked as a translator from the Hungarian. Judging by a few of her articles, she knew the Thackeray family. Gaye never married and died on 16 March 1914 in London.
