Biography: Catherine Elizabeth Spencer was born about 1800. Her early life cannot be traced. In 1821, she married clergyman John Leigh Spencer, incumbant of Trinity Church, Lambeth and later rector of Barfreystone, Kent. The couple had one child, the later author Anna B. F. Leigh Spencer. In her widowhood, Spencer herself wrote a novel Ashdown Parsonage Sixty Years Since (1864). She died the following year on 1 May 1865 in Bromley.
