Biography: Marianne Filleul was born on 30 November 1828 in London, the daughter of barrister Samuel Rainbow Girdlestone and his wife Amelia. In 1853, she married clergyman Philip V. M. Filleul, one-time Warden of Christ's College, Tasmania and chaplain of Wadham College, Oxford. Her husband subsequently became the rector of Biddisham in Somersetshire. The couple had two sons who both became clergymen. After her sons left for school, Filleul turned to fiction, penning a handful of novels. She died on 23 November 1913 in Upway, Dorset.
