Biography: Geraldine Mary Celia Mockler was born on 1 October 1868 in Teignmouth, Devon, the daughter of Irish army officer William Elliot Mockler and his wife Clara Isabella (née Birdwood). Judging by the censuses, the family lived a wandering life living in Pembroke, Devon, and London. Mockler never married. In her early twenties, she began writing fiction for young adult readers beginning with Nell, Edie and Toby (1891). She lived a long life dying on 23 April 1967 in Brighton at the age of 98 years.
