Summary: Left a poor young orphan upon the death of her clergyman father, Alice Graham is taken under the care of her father’s friend, a wealthy widow. Grown up, she happily becomes engaged to the widow’s son, a steady, unexciting gentleman, but then encounters her soulmate, a passionate artist. Much angst ensues. Ultimately, her husband is carried off by a fatal horse-riding accident, freeing her to remarry. (LP)
